Redwood and Grant Transit Improvement Project
Improving Pedestrian and Transit Safety for All
History and Background
Serving over 1,000 passenger trips each weekday, the current bus stop located at Redwood Boulevard and Grant Avenue struggles to meet the needs of transit riders and the Novato community. The existing facility has an inefficient design that creates travel delays, pedestrians crossing Redwood mid-block frequently report feeling unsafe, local public safety officers lack sufficient visibility to monitor the bus shelter area, and people with disabilities are challenged by poor access.
In 2013, Marin Transit, the City of Novato, and the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District (GGBHTD) kicked off planning for an improved transit stop at Redwood and Grant. Since that time, the project team has worked with both technical experts and community stakeholders to design a project that improves safety, comfort, and efficiency for the transit riders who use this critical bus stop, while also using this opportunity to create an attractive gateway to downtown Novato.
