Marin Transit is experiencing declining revenues and is forced to reduce transit operating costs by making service reductions, which will likely be implemented in March 2010. This web page is designed to provide information on the proposed reductions and the public outreach process. The Marin Transit Board voted to approve the proposed service reductions at the November 16, 2009 Public Hearing. The service reductions will go into effect on Sunday, March 14, 2010.

Why do we need to reduce service?

The funding necessary to provide transit service in Marin County comes from many sources.  The majority (75%) of the funding comes from State and local sales tax revenues.  Marin Transit has lost over $2 million annually in Measure A Sales Tax, Property Tax, and State Transit Assistance annually due to the recent economic crisis.  Combined with continually increasing service costs, these significant funding loses will lead to  a $16 million deficit over the next 10 years without service cuts.  Fare increases alone cannot close the projected budget shortfalls.  Therefore, Marin Transit is forced to reduce transit operation costs by making service adjustments.

What are the reductions?

Please view the service reductions here.

There are NO changes to Routes 35, 71, 61, 62, 68, (Stagecoach), 221, 233, 259 (Community Shuttles), 113, 117, 125, 126, 127, 139 (supplemental school routes).
